D&M was founded in 1960 by Marv Knipfer and Duane Knipfer, two brothers with a vision to build quality projects through hard work, honesty, and craftsmanship. Before long, their father Frank Sr. and brothers Frank and John joined in, turning D&M into a true family operation. Over the years, their sons, daughters, and eventually the next generations — including us — became part of the business.
Four generations of family have helped build D&M into the company it is today. We're proud of the reputation earned through decades of dedication and family values — and we continue to carry that same pride and tradition into every project we take on.

Dan began working in the family business right out of high school. For the first 20 years, he worked out in the field, serving as foreman on many large projects — including Menards stores and numerous others across the region. At age 38, he took over ownership of D&M and transitioned into the office to help guide the company forward. Even today, at 66 years old and with 48 years of experience at D&M, Dan still enjoys getting out into the field — finishing a floor or lending a hand wherever it's needed to get the job done right.
Sean grew up around D&M, spending time on job sites throughout high school and working full-time right after graduation. At 22, he stepped into the office to help as Dan was "running on empty," taking on estimating and operations responsibilities. Today, Sean continues to oversee all quality control and lead estimating — ensuring every job reflects the same hands-on commitment and quality that's been at the heart of D&M since the beginning.
